Th e belief that hard work brings monetary reward came from this luxurious age. Ficinos translation of Platos writings from the traditional definitive into Latin gave Western scholars their first chance to read the Greek philosopher since the fall of Rome. It was based on his translations and his generous benefactor Cosimo de Medici that the Platonic Academy was born.
